Deadbaits about them and using them
This section attempts to provide details about the many and varied baits now available to us as pike anglers. It also explores the use of added attraction, in the form of enhancing dead baits with oils and flavourings and making them more visually appealing with the use of colour by adding dye's.
However one thing it has to show you is how to mount baits on terminal tackle and this is to ensure that all baits are as pike friendly as is possible given that they are loaded with hooks. Poorly mounted baits will put the pike you hook at risk and that I am sure we all want to reduce the risk of our quarry suffering and ultimately dying after having been badly or deeplyhooked because we failed to mount our bait correctly.
This advice is aimed at everyone who pike fishes, not any particular individual category of angler.
The information provide across this sections pages includes the following categories:
- Detailed identities of live and dead baits!
- How to correctly hook your baits!
- Making your baits more attractive!
These baits are probably some of those you are most likely to use in everyday pike fishing on small stillwaters, rivers and drains, even the bigger waters like lochs, reservoirs and gravel pits.
Some are suited to particular conditions and this is described in a little detail on the 'Baits identified' page.
The 'Swallowed bait' shows the risk of poor hook positioning! Any new and useful bait mounting and hooking arrangements that prove to be effective and beneficial to the welfare of the pike will be added for you to see and try.
Check out the 'bite indication' tips to avoid it happening to you!
