5 Turn Sliding Stop Knot (Powergum version)  E-mail

Powergum stop knot

An important knot for any pike angler, the sliding stop knot. This can be used as an alternative to a silicone braid stop, or in preference if you choose to do so. Can be more secure than a braid stop when tightened fully!

This illustration shows the 'grinner' derivative which allows this knot to be tied simply and to be 'perfectly' formed, a characteristic missing from some of the other versions often offered and suggested for this task.

Use this knot to create the depth settings used with all sliding float methods such as float paternosters, sunk and surface , free roving rigs and leger rigs. This is the knot discussed and recommended in the rigs shown on this site.

There is a growing trend to recommend the use of 'rubber' float and braid stops to set depths for floats, these often need to be used in multiples, two or three rubbers to get a really secure hold, this knot is not subject to those problems, with the long-ish tags the knot can be tightened if you don't get it right immediately.

They also feed through the rings easier when set up for deeper water, typically what you might have when drifting big stillwaters!
